The word “Tupperware” calls to mind images of prim, post-war wives chatting in immaculate living rooms enthusiastically selecting plastic receptacles while exchanging jell-O recipes – in a word: kitsch-o-riffic.

In that same spirit of irony and artifice, Tupperware, the bar, has decorated both floors with every form of bargain basement nostalgia that you can imagine – Barbie Dolls, as you might have guessed, figure in prominently.

The bar has an energizing party vibe that’s great for groups of friends. The music, which ranges from 90s alternative to present-day pop, tends to be a little on the loud side but does allow conversation. The trick is to arrive early enough to get seats upstairs. If you pull this off, you’re set for the night. If not, consider plan “B”.

In general, it seems that everyone who has lived in this town for more than a year has a “Tupperware” tale to tell – it’s a gateway to becoming a Madrid insider (notice, I said “gateway” not “end all”). If you haven’t discovered it yet, chances are there’s a “Tupperware” night out there just waiting for you.
