Taxis are the most commonly used means of transport in most of the cities and Madrid is no exception. Tourists will not find it difficult to get a taxi in Madrid.

Taxis in Madrid easy to spot: they are white in with a red stripe on the door. A green roof light indicates that the taxi is free and has no passengers. The meter of the taxi has a minimum price when it is started, but this minimum price is not fixed for all days or all time of the day. Pricing also can vary for weekends, holidays, and evenings.

The meter itself displays the type of fare it is running: if it shows fare-1 it means that the taxi is running on weekdays between 6am to 10 pm, similarly fare-2 is for holidays. Officially, the minimum set charge is 1.95 euros on week days from 6am to 10pm; the charge for each kilometer is 0.87 euro.
