Spanish Wine from your very own barrio!
Uncategorized — By admin on April 18, 2007 12:00 amSo obviously yo’ mama told you to never arrive empty handed. Whether you are dashing to a friend’s for dinner or making the long trek back to your country or city of origin, here is a tip: wines dedicated to your very own barrio here in Madrid. It’ll be a hit, I promise.
Yes, there’s currently a series of wine dedicated to the individual neighbourhoods here in Madrid. The wine called Lavapies, for example, is represented by an image of “La Corrala” – a building which has become emblematic of local history. The architecture of this block of flats harkens back to a day in which tenants lived more closely in community – this, of course, was necessitated by the fact that there was only one bathroom per floor, but presumably there were lots of perks to this arrangement as well because everyone is very sentimental about this building. An important detail in this image is the fact that it’s centered around a clothesline thereby honouring the working class roots of the Lavapies.
So make your dear old mum proud and arrive not only with wine, but wine that’s hip, historical and cheap – less than two euros a bottle! We have yet to find examples other than “Lavapies”, but, since it’s a series, they must be out there – check your local corner store.
