Oskar Burger
International / Fusion — By admin on July 11, 2007 12:00 amHey MAPistas,
I know, we’ve been getting a little “pijo” lately. Don’t worry, we’ll get the “force” back in balance right now. I’m a guy who spends a lot of time in “bares de viejos” or “old guy bars,” and just to show you where I’m coming from – the last time I paid an entrance fee for alcohol-serving establishment was probably back in college at Scotty T’s “All You Can Drink Beer Pong Extravaganza”–and I think the damage to get in there was only like 4 bucks.
So for those of you who think like me, that is, the definition of a good time is limited to two words–”cheap & good”–let me present you with one of Madrid’s finest traditions in supreme culinary delight: Oskar.Yes, Oskar, also known The Great Oskar Burger within certain circles (which yes, I belong to), has got a mammoth chicken burger which I personally attest to as the BEST post-whiskey-hangover meal in Madrid.
Now pay attention–there’s a technique for taking down one of these monsters. The piece of chicken is so big that, in the beginning, you gotta usa a knife and fork. Once you whittle it down to the buns though, drop the utensils, switch to the hands, and go for it, baby.A hot plate of french fries smothered in mustard and ketchup and a couple of cold cañas will amplify your palatal pleasure. Oh, and I gotta mention, as I always do when I find these places, they put big plastic squeeze bottles of mustard and ketchup on the tables – a rarity in Madrid.
Cheap, good, Oskar. So go check them out. Positive side effects may include a coma-like siesta. Enjoy!
Oskar
