Naked Moms to the Rescue?

The umbrella – it’s better to be safe than sorry.

In recent years who hasn’t gotten naked
for some “good cause”? Spanish rugby players, German academics, gay activists,
Austrian ski instructors and now… mothers of school children – it had to
happen sooner or later.

Yes, in Serradilla de Arroyo, a Spanish
pueblo, seven mothers disrobed for a calendar to raise money for a recreation
center. According to the mothers, the aim of the project is to provide their
kids with the same opportunities as students have in larger cities – um, like
seeing their mothers publish naked pictures of themselves?

Is anyone else a little confused? Is
pornography now classed as a humanitarian effort? Is narcissism a virtue? What
ever happened to bake sales?

Anyway, it was noted that all women were
married (is this relevant?) and all of the husbands supported the project from
the beginning. The children’s response is unknown. Since most children slip
into a state of mortification when their mother is seen wearing last year’s
fashion, one can only assume the present situation intensifies that
considerably. Example: “Juan, I saw photos of your mom on the Internet – she
was wearing nothing but a Christmas ornament!” (see photos).

Perhaps some of the children are
grumbling this year, but it’s only a matter of time before karma rectifies the
situation. In three years, when little Maria, now 16, is walking out the door
in a micro-mini skirt and her mother shouts “You aren’t leaving the house
looking like that!”, what will happen? The child will simply smile and nod at
the calendar of mom wearing nothing but an umbrella – issue settled.

At that point Mom might think, “Why
couldn’t we have just had a bake sale!” Well, quite frankly, I wouldn’t be
writing about a bunch of moms selling chocolate chip cookies in lobby of a
rural school, would I? Hopefully, this little publicity stunt, pays off and
young Maria, scantily clad, is off to a dance at the new rec center.
