If you are heading to the museums, don’t miss the world-renowned
Prado. The extensive collections that the museum houses
are beyond the scope of a one-day trip so the best idea would be to take a peek
on line and plan your strategy.

Don’t worry, this doesn’t involve indepth art history research. The Prado has made this easy with a type of “sampler
visit”. As with restaurant samplers, you
can try a bit of everything. The “15 Masterpieces”
portion of the website shows you the most important works in the museum complete
with critical commentary and the location.
You can immediately identify artists, genres and epochs that most
interest you before even arriving at the Prado.

We also have some advice on exiting the Prado. Although art is enriching, in such massive quantities it can feel like you’ve suffered an “art attack”. If you need to relax a bit after the Prado, go next door to the Royal Botanical Gardens. It makes for a great complement.
