SPANISH TAPAS
Tapas are various Spanish specialty dishes. Usually shared with your companions, it is common to eat tapas straight from the tapas dish rather than pull a bit onto your own plate (as you might do with a salad)–so don't get freaked out when your Spanish friends stick their forks into your tortilla de patata!). It is very common to create a full lunch or dinner out of a few tapas.

TAPAS
Malasaña Neighborhood
- Restaurante Boñar de Leon. Order a beer and get a bowl of paella.
- Casa Julio. Totally insider and hidden, this is a favorite tapas bar in Madrid for expats. If you want fancy, go somewhere else. Do not come to Madrid without trying their croquettes. If they're good enough for Bono, they're good enough for me.
- El Tigre. Chueca. Order a beer they'll start throwing plates of grub at ya. So packed full of study abroad students that you feel like your at a United Nations toga party.
- Darbar. Indian tapas. East meets West!
- El Gañan. Opera. A MAPMagazine staff favorite. If you can find it near the Santo Domingo metro stop, all the best of luck to ya. Order one beer and a "gañan." Then, order one beer and a "señorito.¨ If you are still hungry after that (which we doubt), order another beer and a "timon." If you are still hungry after eating a timon, you have issues.
Lavapiés Neighborhood
- Taberna Casa de las Tostas. Check out their awesome, gourmet "tostas."

KOSHER RESTAURANTS
- Naomi Grill. Though kosher restaurants in Madrid are few and far between, the Naomi Grill offers fantastic Sephardic cuisine with a very Morroccan flare.
SPECIALTY GROCERY STORES
- A Salto de Mata. Organic food.
