Every year in August, one of Madrid’s great neighborhoods, La Latina, comes alive with a celebration of its patron saints.  The celebration of San Cayetano and San Lorenzo all conclude with the big celebration on August 15th with the fiesta for the Virgen de la Paloma.  The celebrations include dancing, music, costumes and an all around festive environment in the streets and adjoining squares.  The festival dates all the way back to the 1700s and is one of the year’s most entertaining street events due to the amount of locals that participate in its celebration.  The highlight of the event centers around the processions where the Virgin is paraded through the streets for locals and visitors to see.  If you’re in Madrid, this is one of those festivals that you can’t miss being a part of, so head down to La Latina this Sunday, August 15th, and pay your respects to the Virgin la Paloma and then enjoy all of the festivities.
