Madrid Concert Roundup
Your live music outlook for April in Madrid is outstanding, featuring multiple rock legends, hyped new-comers, folk, punk, electronic, a Movie Star-turned singer and everything in between. So here it is your April ConcertMAP:
Tokio Hotel 4/6 – Palacio de Deportes de Madrid: The German pop group is on tour promoting their newest album Humanoid. They’ve sold over a million copies of their previous album and should definitely draw a large crowd. For tickets click here.
YACHT 4/9 – Sala Sol: Don´t miss this chance to see the work of electro-pop master Jona Bechtolt when YACHT plays a show as part of the Heineken Music Selector series. In addition, this is your cheap show pick of the month; at 10€ you won’t find a better deal in April.
Bear in Heaven 4/16 – Moby Dick: This should prove to be a good opportunity to catch a show from a not-yet-well-known indie group riding a wave of recent critical acclaim.
High Places 4/16 – La Casa Encendida: A Brooklyn/L.A. based electronic duo that churns out fun pop tunes that is touring in support of their second album, High Places vs. Mankind.
Sonic Youth 4/19 & 4/20 – La Riviera: The first show sold out so quickly that they had to add a second night. Pioneers of the alt-rock scene who have sustained an impossible three decade long run of popularity and success grace Madrid with two nights of pure rock’n’roll.
Mika 4/19 – Palacio de Deportes de Madrid: If you’ve listened to their hit song Grace Kelly then you know this electro-pop groups songs are upbeat, poppy, and can get stuck in your head. When this popular group rolls into Madrid tickets are sure to sell out fast. For tickets click here.
The Very Best 4/22 – Sala Heineken: This is one of those mixes of music from around the world that just works. Fueled by Esau Mwamwaya’s stage presence the show promises to be a good one.
Crystal Antlers & Times New Viking 4/22 – Moby Dick: A nice two-for-the-price-of-one ticket pairs lo-fi specialists New Times Viking with psych-rockers the Crystal Antlers.
She & Him 4/26 – Joy: The collaboration of M. Ward and Zooey Deschanel combines the musical craftsmanship of Ward with the unmistakably infectious voice of Deschanel to form a fun folk duo. The interesting pairing of indie music guru Ward and indie movie queen Deschanel has been a success and they are on tour in support of She & Him: Volume Two.
Port O’Brien 4/28 – Moby Dick: A band that really makes you want to jump up and sing-a-long. Port O’Brien would be a stand out concert, but for the fact that April is already packed with so many must-see shows.
Nada Surf 4/29 – Joy (Tupperware Party): Although they have been around long enough to gather alt-rock, indie rock and MTV cred, they’re still not past their prime. Join them as the Malasaña nightlife staple, Tupperware, celebrates its 15th birthday.
Iggy and The Stooges 4/30 – La Riviera: The Rock’n’Roll legend re-teams with recent Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees, The Stooges, to re-create some of their rowdy punk rock concerts. Rock ON!!!
Tough choices indeed! See one, see five, see them all, but take a hard look at these concerts because it’s unlikely that there will be another month as complete as what the April concerts in Madrid have to offer.
