Chinese New Year in Madrid! STARTS SUNDAY, 25 January

Festivals — By on January 24, 2009 11:06 am

Madrid loves its Chinese population.  After all,  who but the Chinese can one count on for late night beer runs and aluminum wrapped rice meals at 5am? Well, it’s time to celebrate our hardworking Chinese neighbors because it’s time for….da da da…. Chinese New Year!!!

Goodbye Year Of The Rat, Hello Year Of the Ox! The festivities begin THIS SUNDAY with some very cool,  though under-publicized  events:

DRAGON PARADE

Get down to Calle Preciados by 12:00 noon tomorrow to catch the dragon parade, starting at Plaza Callao and heading toward Puerta Del Sol.

THE BIG PARTY

On January 29th, check out the Chinese mega-party  Casa Asia has planned at El Palacio de los Deportes. The event is free. According to Casa Asia:

…the friendly communities of Madrid will smile ‘face to face’ with spectacles lead by Chinese residents of Spain, their Spanish friends, and immigrants of other nationalities -  a great occasion for coexistence while welcoming in the Year Of The Ox.

In addition to these events, if you hang out in Lavapiés tomorrow and this week, you´re bound to see some New Year´s action. Unfortunately though, due to a low profile,  we can´t be sure of who, what, or where…

And while we’re in the mood for all things Chinese, why not stop by and check out one of our favorite Chinese fast food restaurants in Madrid.

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!
