So, here in Madrid, it has been a wacky week. First, politically rallying pigs overtook a bar in Malasaña and now architectural anarchists are planning on over-run the city. But don’t worry, both camps are cool… uh, we think. Read on and figure it out for yourself: Consider your city as a virgin space and become a new kind...

The seminal author, Naomi Klein, will be in Madrid tonight to discuss her newest book "The Shock Doctrine" . While the work investigates notions of "free-market" economies in response to horrific events such as terrorist attacks or natural disasters, the work has numerous connections to the Spanish-speaking world. True, Klein spends a section of the work condemning the Spanish government’s response to the Madrid bombings in 2004, but she also teamed up with Mexican director Alfonso Cuaron to adapt the book into a ten-minute cinematic short that...
Yes, the floor is dirty; yes, it’s not comfortable to sit in for hours having a coffee; yes, it’s always full of old men and the occasional roadside bum – but it has the best tapas I have eaten in my 15 months...

Named after a wine, there is nothing…umm… to whine about at Bacchus. A second hand bookstore and coffee shop, the place is warm, friendly and just plain comfortable. With its earth tones, cozy sofas, dim lights, great coffee and home-made (vegetarian) tostadas, its one of those places you just...
Between the end of the 19th century and the middle of the 20th, Madrid’s favorite pastime - talking, talking, talking - was taken even more seriously than usual. Part of a proper bohemian life was engaging in tertulias, informal gatherings to chat about, of course, everything counter-cultural. The newly developed tradition of sitting down at a marble table...

In response to the perennial question of how to encourage people to abandon their emission-spewing autos, we at MAP Magazine pose the question: Would live pole dancing encourage you to take the metro more frequently? To linger a little longer? Facilitate social interactions with your fellow passengers? We’ve unofficially launched an inquiry into the possibility of adding a little eros to your drab daily commute. Stay tuned in the coming weeks as we explore these and other forward-thinking solutions such as complimentary lap dances in taxis and, of course, tantric massage on the city’s trains.
For those of you who caught yesterdays “Daily Dose”, you will remember that it was about an art exhibition devoted to the bum, yes, the gluteus maximus. Likewise today’s article is about “asses” but of a very different sort. Today we are talking about “asses”; i.e., donkeys as well as other equine animals such as mules and horses. All this comes about because the fellows behind MAPmagazine.com are now proud horse papas. Yes, we adopted a horse named Malagueña. As with many adoptions, the story behind Malagueña is, to say the least, unfortunate...
In this case it isn't Don Quijote, it's Donkey Jodido! The plight of donkeys, mules and horses in Spain is receiving more media attention, but perhaps not enough. The end of the summer brought a whole new slew of criticisms against the donkey operators in the pueblo of Mijas – famous for it general quaintness and specifically for its old-fashion donkey taxis. Most complaints focused on the ill-fitting tack (horse equipment), abusive reprimands, and the fact that their necks are lashed to long poles inhibiting movement for long periods of time. MAPmagazine.com has decided to do our part by adopting a horse named Malaguena – see story.
