Bodega del Águila: Bar and Restaurant
Bar reviews, Spanish — By admin on April 9, 2007 12:00 amThe newest addition to the La Latina scene looks very promising weighing in wonderfully balanced on all criteria: space – not too small; not too big; lighting – not too dark, not too bright; and music – not too soft not too loud. In addition to this, the warm color scheme, antique posters, beautiful tile work, and friendly young staff, give it a neighborhood feel.
Another balance they’ve struck is managing to couple the concept of inexpensive bar with really great food – yes, some of us occasionally hunger for more than the much-mythologized Spanish Tortilla! The tosta/pincho selection includes – items from the simple to the sophisticated. Choose from shrimp and avocado or venture into the more rarified: pate of chorizo with quail egg and spiced onion. Similarly, the salads range from the classic to the creative. An example of the latter is the “Silvestre” which includes mixed greens, blackberries, raspberries, and red currents, grated Parmesan and macadamia nuts.
The final balancing act is location. The Águilera was savvy enough to position itself in La Latina, but on one of the smaller streets – by doing so they have hopefully managed to tap into the energy without being overrun by the hordes.
