Bicycle riding in Madrid

A bicycle ride will give you a different kind of experience in Madrid. Though Madrid is not nearly as bicycle-friendly as Barcelona, there are now private and governmental initiatives in Madrid to promote bicycle usage as a means of reducing pollution and traffic problems.  

Madrid has many parks for bicycle riding. These include the the Retiro Park, Casa de Campo, and the Parque del Oeste. It also has an increasing number of pedestrian areas; and in fact, in some parts of old Madrid you will hardly cars at all. Increasingly, bicycle riders are becoming a common sight around town, mainly because because it is cost effective and easier than walking.

Bicycle riders can get road maps at the tourist information offices and use them to create their own routes. Recently, many new companies have come onto the seen which rent bicycles to tourists. The tourist offices will have information on bicycle rental companies.
