D’Valeria is a solid choice if you’re looking for traditional dishes that are true to the Peruvian palate. To start off you cannot go wrong with the papa rellena, a warm baked potato stuffed with tender meat, dried nuts, and a Creole sauce. Or try the papa a la huancaína, and Huancayo style potatoes, the creamy yellow sauce will leave you wanting to lick the plate dry. Both appetizers make a savory preamble to any of the main dishes, like the lomo salteado, a palatably tangy sautéed pork loin served with greens and rice. Fish and seafood, though, are clearly preferred over meat options for the main course; if you’re in the mood for red Pacific tuna with puree, for example, or seafood ceviche with lemon juice, the cooks have no problem satisfying your craving.
Overall, this restaurant lives up to its 8/10 rating (according to atrapalo.com), and the polite, helpful waiters (who are of Peruvian origin and know their “stuff”) will offer up recommendations whenever needed. The only downside is the overwhelmingly slow business you’ll find on a weekday, and the prices, which are a bit steep (about 15-20 euros a pop). Regardless, you’ll find hearty Peruvian dishes and pisco. For those unfamiliar with this term, pisco is customary liquor distilled from grapes, and so popular that it is a must when experiencing Peruvian food.
