Best Bikram Yoga in Madrid
Bikram Yoga College of India
Calle Divino Pastor, 25, (34) 91 523 11 41
Metro: Bilbao
Located in the hip, young and increasingly popular neighborhood of Malasana, this well equipped studio, with changing rooms, five showers, three for women and two for men, was the first Bikram center to open in the city, and to this day remains the only Bikram in Madrid. In 2001, San Francisco native Lucia Kelley, opened Bikram Yoga College of India in Madrid, marking the launch of the now burgeoning yoga scene. The center offers three classes per day, all taught in Castellano, and also has classes taught in English on the weekends, catering to the large number of tourist and ex-pats that frequent the studio. After night classes it’s not difficult to spot the yoga students, who sit on the terraces next to the school, drinking a beer and eating some tapas. Along with the nightly routines, the studio turns into a mini art gallery each year to celebrate its anniversary. A student, who is also an artist, is selected to show their work and sell it, generating a lot of buzz in the community.
