Bars in Madrid: Blue Note Café

jazz

Jazz tunes from the popular Blue Note Café reverberate down the streets of Malasaña late into the night, setting it apart as one of the most vivacious bars in the area. Nestled among other small cafés and restaurants on Calle de la Palma, this bar is sure to be thumping with music and filled with a younger, energetic crowd, even during the week. Stop in early for an Italian coffee or a cup of tea; or swing by with the late-night crowd to enjoy specialty cocktails. Most importantly, prepare to tap your feet to jazz and jam band music. The energy in this unique bar is largely created by the rousing notes of sax, drum, and guitar ringing overhead.

Beyond the lively tunes, striking interior design also sets the Blue Note Café apart. Stoic white columns and urban silver piping juxtapose royal blue walls. A few dark-wood tables are arranged towards the back, although most of the enlivened, twenty-something crowd lingers around the decadent bar. Overhead, a row of rouge lamps cast a soft light on the scene, while another cream-colored lamp in the center of the ceiling screams decadence, dripping with turquoise, ruby, and emerald colored jewels. In the lower level, a brick lined lounge—complete with red lighting, plush velvet sofas, and retro paintings—invites stylish sipping.

The drinks are moderately priced, and the options span from juice to tea, Italian coffee to beer, and fun cocktails, like mojitos, margaritas, and piña coladas. A small snack menu also offers sweet and savory finger food. In this dynamic, one-of-a-kind bar, sip, snack, and sing to round out an evening of all that jazz.
