Bam balam! A Soul and Funk Bar Madrid

Bam balam is a bar as groovy as its name. With soul and funk as a theme, you can hardly go wrong and the owners haven’t held back one iota. The vibrant colors of the interior capture the flare of the music and all other elements – murals, pop art and a mock sacristy – combine seamlessly to offer a setting that is at once mellow and revitalizing.

Regular DJs spin a variety of music all within the soul/funk realm – a very refreshing change in a pop-techno world.

The music theme continues with the menu, which offers tostas with names like “acid Jazz”, “bosanova” and “funky”. A traditional selection of Spanish raciones is also available and the cocktails are a refreshing 6 euros – the mojito are recommended.

Bambalam is in the center, but it’s on a side street so obscure that you would never stumble upon it; however, its location also makes it a perfect afters joint for the Rastro. Although it is a new bar it has big plans – stayed tuned for short movie night!
